James Halliday’s 2012 Australian Wine Companion

2007 Alexander Munro Semillon Rating: 96

The colour is still pale, but with vivid green tinges; the bouquet foreshadows a totally delicious palate with ripe citrus, almost reaching into passionfruit, flavours, and a long finish tied together with gentle acidity.

2007 Terracotta Semillon Rating: 95

Light green-straw; walks a slightly different path to the Alexander Munro, more focused on lime and lemon aromas and flavours, the finish long and crisp, with tingling acidity.

2003 Alexander Munro Shiraz – Aged Release Rating: 94

From the Ivanhoe Vineyard planted over 50 years ago. Has started to show a strong spicy/earthy regional overlay to the fragrant black fruits at the heart of the wine, and to invest it with considerable complexity and length.

2010 Hell Hole Semillon Rating: 92

Light straw-green; a fragrant and expressive bouquet with lemon blossom, talc and herb aromas leads into a flavoursome palate that is going to develop relatively quickly, and really needs no cellaring.

2011 Alexander Munro Chardonnay Rating: 89

Very developed, albeit bright, green-yellow; from the 40-year-old Trevena Vineyard, and in this vintage considered to be the best chardonnay batch harvested; while perfectly pleasant, too much work has been done in the winery, including oak.

2010 XYZ Chardonnay Rating: 89

Light straw-green; a well-made, if traditional, style, with fig, melon and peach fruit wrapped in a skein of French oak; ready now.
