Region: Hunter Valley
Background: Meerea Park has dabbled in Late Harvest (sweet or semi-sweet) wines over the years, as it is not a focus of the brand. Sweet wines have been made from Traminer, Viognier and now Semillon.
Fruit source: The ‘Lochleven’ vineyard situated on Deasy’s Road in Pokolbin.
Fermentation: After harvest, the fruit made a very short journey to the winery where it was fermented in Stainless Steel. Fermentation was stopped at 11% alc with the balance of sugar, (34g/L) left as residual.
Maturation: No maturation was undertaken.
Winemaker’s comments: 2015 was a vintage that suited white grape varieties well, and right in the zone for Semillon.
Tasting note: A great nose that oozes candied stone-fruits and honeydew melon aromas. The palate is plush with sweet mouth-filling ripe fruit flavours. A nice line of acidity keeps the palate fresh and lively.
Cellaring estimate: Drink now to 2020.
Suggested food match: Light deserts or cheese platters.
