Region: Hunter Valley
Background: The XYZ brand wines constitute modern styles of the Hunter staples of Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines.
Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from the 40 year-old ‘Casuarina’ vineyard located on Hermitage Road in Pokolbin.
Fermentation: The fruit was whole bunch pressed and then barrel fermented with no malolactic fermentation allowed.
Maturation: 100% French oak ranging from one year-old to three years-old for seven months.
Winemaker’s comments: The 2010 vintage began the same as 2009 with warm dry weather in January. There was rain in February after all of the white varieties were harvested and only affected Shiraz fruit that was late ripening.
Tasting notes: An inviting nose of melon, peach and cashew nuts with subtle spicy oak. The palate has rich stone-fruit flavours, well managed oak and precise acidity.
Cellaring estimate: Short term.
Suggested food match: Fuller flavoured seafood, chicken and pasta cuisine.
