Region: Hunter Valley
Background: The XYZ brand wines constitute modern styles of Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines.
Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from the 40+ year-old ‘Lochleven’ vineyard located on Deasy’s Road in Pokolbin.
Fermentation: The fruit was whole bunch pressed and then barrel fermented with no malolactic fermentation allowed.
Maturation: 100% French oak ranging from one year-old to three years-old for seven months.
Winemaker’s comments: 2013 was a great problem free vintage in the Hunter Valley for all grape varieties. Chardonnay ripened early with harvesting taking place in mid February.
Tasting notes: The nose is of melon and stone-fruits with nutty oak nuances. The palate is richly flavoured but balanced with seamless acidity that keeps it fresh and alive.
Cellaring estimate: Short—medium term.
Suggested food match: Fuller flavoured seafood, chicken and pasta cuisine.
