Region: Hunter Valley
Background: The XYZ brand wines constitute modern styles of Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines from the Hunter Valley.
Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from an old-vine vineyard in Pokolbin and a mature Chardonnay vineyard at Broke
Fermentation: The fruit was whole bunch pressed and then barrel fermented with no malolactic fermentation allowed.
Maturation: 100% French oak ranging from one year-old to three years-old for a period of six months.
Winemaker’s comments: 2014 was a great problem free vintage in the Hunter Valley for all grape varieties. Chardonnay ripened early with harvesting taking place in mid February
Tasting notes: White Peach and Nectarine stone-fruit aromas fill the nose. The same characters flow on to the flavoursome palate which also has hints of spicy French oak. A nice line of acid holds the fruit and oak together to show impeccable balance
Cellaring estimate: Short—medium term.
Suggested food match:Fuller flavoured seafood, chicken and pasta cuisine.
