Region: Hunter Valley
Background: The ‘XYZ’ brand wines constitute modern styles of Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines from the Hunter Valley.
Fruit source: Grapes used to make this Semillon was sourced from the old-vine vine ‘Lochleven’ vineyard in Pokolbin. The block was planted in 1973.
Fermentation: Standard fermentation in stainless-steel with no malolactic fermentation allowed.
Maturation: No maturation was undertaken.
Winemaker’s comments: 2016 was a return to ‘normal’ Hunter Valley vintage conditions in the beginning. Warm dry days in January were punctuated later in the month with rain and cooler weather. Vintage finished with a return to dry weather and a good harvest overall.
Tasting notes: Very light colour, almost clear, with a pale lemon tinge. There is a lemon concentrate like nose with sherbert like aromas. The palate is light and fresh, with typical citrus flavours. It has great line and length.
Cellaring estimate: Medium to long term.
Suggested food match: Fresh and cooked seafood, including oysters, prawns and white fishDownload pdf
