2007 ‘Alexander Munro’ Shiraz – Aged Release

2007 has proven itself as a great Hunter Valley shiraz vintage. Very low yields following on from the very hot 2006 vintage, ripened easily with only minor storm activity towards harvest. As a whole, 2007 vintage Hunter shirazes have an inherent completeness about them making them very approachable upon release, but also have the structure to reward cellaring.

2012 ‘Alexander Munro’ Semillon

No Shiraz was harvested by us in 2012 and only a couple of parcels of Chardonnay and Semillon. The reason Semillon is so successful in the Hunter Valley is its ability to handle a wide range of weather conditions. The best Semillons are made in the cooler years, and 2012 was certainly that. The class of the ‘Braemore’ vineyard was apparent in delivering grapes that weren’t just usable, but also very high quality.

2013 ’Terracotta’ Semillon

2013 was a warm dry Hunter Valley vintage after the very wet 2012. Vines were very low yielding, but in return produced amazingly flavoured fruit.

2014 ‘Black’ Shiraz

BLACK was originally meant to be a one-off commemorative wine, the thinking being 2011 was a fantastic Shiraz vintage which coincided with our 20th release. 2014 came along and made us reconsider. 2014 just had to produce a BLACK.

2015 ‘XYZ’ Shiraz

The XYZ brand wines constitute modern styles of Hunter Valley Chardonnay and Shiraz. New Generation wines. 2015 was a ‘difficult’ vintage. Our oldest and most reliable vineyard sources held up well and much of the fruit was de-classified into lower price point wines. We are delighted with the results of what we have.

2016 ‘Terracotta’ Syrah

Excess rainfall in 2015 prevented a release of ‘Hell Hole’ , ‘Terracotta’ and ‘Alexander Munro’ Shiraz, so 2016 was a welcome relief. Whilst not completely trouble free, the Valley’s older vineyards, with their deep roots produced high quality grapes if well managed. 2016 will be termed a ‘classic’ vintage.

2016 ‘XYZ’ Chardonnay

‘XYZ’ Chardonnay is usually made from Hunter Valley grapes, but the wet period in February proved detrimental to the variety. Therefore we headed to Orange, who had a wonderful vintage for Chardonnay and quality is extremely high.

2016 ’Alexander Munro’ Chardonnay

When it comes to weather, 2016 was a vast improvement on 2015 and there were only minor disruptions with rain. 2016 white wines on a whole tend to be along the lines of what are termed ‘classic’ styles with good flavour and great acid structures.

2016 ’Hell Hole’ Shiraz

With far too much rainfall in 2015 to release a ‘Hell Hole’ Shiraz, or ‘Terracotta’ and ‘Alexander Munro’ for that matter, 2016 was a welcome relief. Not a completely trouble free vintage, but more typical and quite manageable. The old-vines again proving their worth.
