Region: Hunter Valley
Background: The ‘XYZ’ brand wines constitute modern styles of Hunter Valley wines. Rose is a recent addition to this range.
Fruit source: Merlot was sourced from a mature vineyard in the Upper Hunter.
Fermentation: Once crushed, the grapes were allowed to cold soak for 2 days to allow colour extraction before the juice was ‘bled’ off the skins. The coloured juice was then fermented in a stainless steel tank.
Maturation: No maturation was undertaken.
Winemaker’s comments: The run up to, and during the 2017 vintage was warm, very warm indeed which compacted the entire harvest period to 14 days. No rain meant no disease and beautifully ripe grapes.
Tasting note: A lovely salmon pink in colour, the nose shows confectionary strawberry, rose petal and raspberries. The palate copies the nose with a strawberry and cream lingering flavour. This is neither a sweet nor a dry Rosé and will suit many tastes.
Cellaring estimate: Short term, but may surprise.
Suggested food match: A wide range of foods, including Asian cuisine, or just chilled by its self.
