Region: Hunter Valley
Background: BEBEAH was Alexander Munro’s vineyard and winery at Singleton. He planted the vines in the mid 1800s and went on to be a very successful vigneron. This is the first time the BEBEAH label has been used in over a hundred years.
Fruit source: Fruit for this wine is from a block on the mature ‘Lochleven’ vineyard located on the corner of McDonalds and Deasys roads in Pokolbin which was planted in 1973.
Fermentation: The handpicked parcel of the semillon was crushed and then fermented in a stainless steel tank.
Maturation: No maturation was undertaken prior to bottling.
Winemaker’s comments: 2015 was far from a good Hunter Valley red vintage but it suited the white varieties and has produced some great Semillons. They are ’classic’ in style and will be very cellar worthy.
Tasting notes: Beautiful lemon citrus and lemon zest aromas. The palate is all zingy citrus with the hallmark mouth-watering acidity of Hunter Valley Semillon giving it great line and length.
Cellaring estimate: Medium to long term.
Suggested food match: Freshly shucked oysters.
