Region: Hunter Valley
Background: ‘Indie’ is the label where we release wines that are not what you would say ‘mainstream’ for the Hunter Valley.
Fruit Source: Semillon grapes were sourced from the Kindred family’s, ‘Lochleven’ Estate on the corner of Deasys and McDonalds Roads in Pokolbin and the Chardonnay from the ‘Brycefield’ Vineyard on Lovedale Road.
Fermentation: The Semillon was fermented in a Stainless Steel tank and the Chardonnay barrel fermented in 2 year old French oak Hogsheads.
Maturation: Maturation for the Chardonnay was a duration of 10 months. The two parcels were then blended and bottled in January 2016. The blend is 60% Semillon and 40% Chardonnay.
Winemaker’s comments: 2015 ended up a very good Hunter vintage for white varieties, helped by the cooler weather that prevented sunburn, sometimes experienced in scorching hot vintages. The wines show great natural acid keeping them tight and focused.
Tasting note: An enticing light straw hue. Aromas of lemon grass, white peach, honeydew melon with hints of vanilla. The Chardonnay hits the front palate with great flavour and the Semillon, with its acidity gives the palate length and structure.
Cellaring estimate: medium term (5—10 years).
Suggested food match: Many cuisines; seafood, poultry, pork and pasta dishes.
